Sara
Sara Who was Sara? She was Abraham's wife and Isaac's mother. What did she do? Sarah left behind the comfortable life she had in the rich city of Ur, because she had faith in the promises that God had made to her husband, Abraham. God told Abraham to leave Ur and go to the land of Canaan. God promised that He would bless him and make him a great nation. (Genesis 12: 1-5) Sara was perhaps 60 when she did. Thereafter, Sarah and Abraham lived in tents, moving from place to place. Although this type of life was dangerous, Sarah supported Abraham's decision to obey God. (Genesis 12:10, 15) For a long time, Sarah had no children. It made her very sad. But God had promised to bless Abraham's seed. (Genesis 12: 7; 13:15; 15:18; 16: 1, 2, 15) Later, God said that Sarah would have a son with Abraham. And she did have a son, when she was well past the age of becoming a mother. She was 90 years old, and Abraham was already a hundred. (Genesis 17:17; 21: 2-5) They called their son Isaac. What can we learn from Sara? Sara's story shows that we can always trust God to keep his promises, even if that seems impossible. (Hebrews 11:11) And her example as a wife shows the importance of respect in marriage. - 1 Peter 3: 5, 6. ▸To learn more about Sarah, see the article “You are a very beautiful woman” and “God called her 'princess'”.
