Deborah

Deborah Débora Who was Débora? She was a prophetess that the God of Israel, Jehovah, used to reveal his will in matters relating to His people. God also used it to solve problems that existed among the Israelites. - Judges 4: 4, 5. What did she do? Deborah courageously supported the people of God. Following His guidance, she summoned Barak to lead the Israeli army in a war against the Canaanites. (Judges 4: 6, 7) When Barak asked Deborah to go with him to the battle, she was brave and readily accepted. - Judges 4: 8, 9. After God gave the Israelites victory, Deborah composed at least part of the song that she and Barak sang about what had happened. In this song, she speaks of what Jael, another brave woman, did to help defeat the Canaanites. - Judges, chapter 5. What can we learn from Deborah? Deborah was brave and was willing to sacrifice herself for others. She encouraged others to obey God. And when they did, she praised them for what they had done. ▸To learn more about Deborah, see the article “I got up as a mother in Israel”.
